LongReach Plant Breeders is the new face of wheat breeding in Australia. It is a foundation seed company and Australia’s first globally resourced and locally operated commercial wheat breeder.

LongReach’s national wheat breeding program is designed to deliver grain growers robust, high yielding and disease resistant varieties in each of the key production zones of the Australian wheat belt. This will also provide more consistent agronomic and quality performance across regions.

Through its links with Syngenta Seeds’ global winter cereal breeding network, LongReach has privileged access to the best available breeding technology and evaluation systems, as well as proprietary traits and germplasm from all major wheat producers.

As a result LongReach has one of the fastest wheat breeding cycles in the world, deployed in a solid commercial business structure. Its goal is to become Australia’s premier wheat breeding and foundation seed company.

LongReach commenced operations in 2002 and by the end of the 2007 season, has released 9 new varieties into the Australian market. It is a joint venture company.  The shareholders are Pacific Seeds, a member of the Advanta group of international companies and Syngenta Seeds, a subsidiary of the global agribusiness corporation Syngenta AG.
